I hear ya Brian. If your appeal to the unpaid subscribers does not work, then maybe look at the paying subscribers...Those that pay $5 could most likely afford a little more but the only other option is $60. If all of your existing subscribers paid $6 or $7 a month, that could really help but Substack does not allow for tiers in between. So I'm thinking, for those who are willing and able to pay more than $5 monthly, then perhaps you could showcase your Subscribestar account for an additional $5, $10, or $15 subscription a month. It's more than $5 and less than $60. (it's easier to pay in smaller increments rather than a chunk of $60) You could do a video or something. I'd be willing to do this - let us know what you think.

Also, if you've got big plans for next year with traveling, reporting, interviews with the expectation of these baddies going down, then maybe think bigger than Substack and start your own news-reporting website. This way, you've got no limitations, no Substack fees, complete control, you can showcase your own merch or affiliate links, or set up a paywall there too. Think bigger! And the best of luck!

I catch your drift about being in tune with the Great Awakening and all. However, I learned long ago that in order to be most effective, energy needs to move. Money is a form of energy, as are your columns. By making your columns free, energy moves only in one direction....from you to the recipients with nothing coming back. Which makes whatever you give LESS effective (energy gets stuck) and what you don't receive MORE effective (i.e. you become increasingly unable to pay your bills). Took me a long time to understand that.

In other words, I charge what I do b/c I'm worth it. My customers pay me what they do b/c they're worth it. It's all a matter of self-empowerment of both the giver and the recipient.

That being said, I'd gladly pay more than $5/month. How 'bout offering a $10/month option with some sort of bonus that the $5/month don't get? And simply no longer make your column available to freeloaders.

I switched to paying after reading your work for a couple years for free on Telegram and then TS. It occurred to me that without your input, I wouldn’t have understood quite a bit about the war we were navigating through. You earn every penny with fair and insightful analysis. Ill throw in “humor”, as an add on. Point is, i don’t miss $5.00/ month. But Id surely miss your columns.
