No, Dana White Isn't Crazy
Like Me, After YEARS of Looking, He's Found Something that ACTUALLY WORKS - And He Wants To Share It With The World
One of the things I found fascinating during my recent health journey over the last year, as I began researching some pretty interesting topics, such as grounding, early morning sunlight, PEMF mats, hot saunas, cold plunges, infrared light therapy, etc. was that almost all of these things are being enthusiastically practiced by UFC President Dana White.
Not only does White practice this stuff, but he’s become quite the enthusiastic proponent of them, which has created some controversy since he began publicly claiming a while back that following biologist Gary Brecka’s ‘Ultimate Human Protocol’ literally saved his life.
When you first look into it, Brecka’s protocol can sound like hippie bullshit:
Air/Oxygen Breathing Exercises
Hydrogen Water
Earth/Grounding
Sunlight/Infrared Light
Cold Plunges
Hot Sauna
Brecka claims proper use of these things are ‘biohacks’ that can greatly improve someone’s health.
It’s claimed the ‘normal’ Western sedentary indoor lifestyle - where the average person spends well over 90% of their daily time indoors in artificial light in very comfortable circumstances - is driving a host of metabolic illnesses and diseases. [The extremely poor ‘Standard American Diet’ also plays a big role in that]
Some critics of Brecka and White’s enthusiastic promotion of The Ultimate Human Protocol over the past year suggest that this is some kind of money-making grift, selling snake oil to the public.
I freely confess that I was extremely skeptical when I started looking into this stuff about six months ago. So, I understand why some people dismiss it without really examining it.
It’s true that, on his website, Brecka advertises things like $250 hydrogen water bottles and partners with companies that sell cold plunge tubs and other very expensive devices.
But it’s hard to see what exactly Dana White gets out of this ‘grift’ if this bio-hacking stuff doesn’t work. Why would a guy worth $500 million waste his time plugging something without making any money off it? As he humorously tells the Bell brothers in an interview linked below, HE’S paying BRECKA, not the other way around.
And Brecka often stresses that people don’t need expensive devices to practice his protocol. Now, if you can afford it and want to buy a $5,000 PEMF mat, a $50,000 red light chamber or a $8,000 cold plunge tub, they certainly can help speed up your results, but they’re not essential.
There are much cheaper PEMF mats, a good red-light panel can be had for under $100, and you can even buy a cold plunge pop-up tub for $150 and fill it with water and ice yourself.
Listen to Dana White tell his story about the place he found himself in two years ago in the below video, where he discusses how all his biomarkers were rocketing into the stratosphere to the point he was alerted that he might drop dead at any moment due to his triglycerides being an astronomical 700+.
[Author’s Note: Fair warning: Dana White talks like Dana White at all times and in all venues. If listening to an interview where a guy drops a lot of f-bombs, and other curse words upsets you, you should probably skip the interview videos embedded below.
Dana White is a well-known success story. In 2001, he helped save a struggling mixed martial arts promotion when he and his business partners purchased it for $2 million. They then turned The Ultimate Fighting Championship into one of the biggest and most profitable sports organizations in the world. Last year, many quarters valued UFC at north of $7 billion. White himself currently has an estimated net worth of more than $500 million.
How bad was the condition of the very successful UFC president? His thyroid and his metabolism were all out of whack. He was tired all the time. He was sleeping with a CPAP machine - or trying to. He was taking high blood pressure and cholesterol and thyroid meds - with no real results. His chronic illnesses kept getting WORSE, not better.
He had all the biomarkers of metabolic syndrome: high blood pressure, high triglycerides, visceral belly fat, high fasting glucose, and high bad cholesterol.
He always had low energy, to the point he was even falling asleep in meetings with his staff. To quote him from the linked video interviews, he felt like “sh*t” all the time. And nothing seemed to help.
Here was a guy who, as a millionaire 500 times over, could easily afford the best doctors and the best Rockefeller-based medical care. And he couldn’t seem to get any real help. He felt like he was drowning, sinking downward as he desperately looked for answers to turn things around - and he wasn’t finding them, no matter how many doctors he saw or how many new drugs he took.
“Just eat right, work out, and improve your health!” is not good advice to someone who’s tired all the time, struggling with multiple serious health issues, and struggling to sleep at night.
Like me for many years, I’m sure White tried many of the conventionally popular methods to ‘get in shape’ and improve his health. And found they didn’t help him much if at all.
Then White was introduced to Gary Brecka - and was astounded when Brecka was able to succinctly explain to White exactly what was wrong with him - even commenting **accurately** to White that the advanced metabolic syndrome he was suffering from must be dramatically affecting his legs.
This was true. White’s legs were in such bad shape, the metabolic syndrome and the chronic illnesses it was causing him had advanced to the point the UFC president was **struggling to put his shoes on every morning**.
And he hadn’t even mentioned anything about his legs to Brecka yet. This observation from Brecka convinced White to listen to Brecka when he told him, “Give me 10 weeks, I’ll change your life.”
White had the same metabolic syndrome that is right now slowly and silently killing millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people all around the world.
Slowly and silently killing many of the people reading this column RIGHT NOW.
As you watch this other recent interview White did with the Bell brothers, you not only get a sense of exactly how much White honestly believes in Brecka’s bio-hacking Ultimate Human Protocol, but you also see how much of his own time and money White has invested in following that protocol.
White proudly shows the Bell brothers how he’s redesigned much of the UFC headquarters specifically to add equipment and devices that allow him—and his many employees—to implement Brecka’s ‘Ultimate Human Protocol’ on a daily basis.
Does Bio-Hacking Actually Work? I Think It Does!
As many of you know, in June of last year, I embarked on my health journey, and by August, I had adopted a Carnivore Diet on an intermittent fasting OMAD system [that’s One Meal A Day, for those of you in Rio Linda!]
But in March of this year, after extensive research, I began experimenting with biohacking in addition to my Carnivore/OMAD diet.
I’m doing bio-hacking on the cheap, and it’s working:
Grounding/Earthing - I spend 20-30 minutes in my backyard on the grass in my shorts doing a light workout in the early morning sunlight. Getting morning sunlight has definitely improved my sleep in the 4 months I’ve been doing this.
I bought a mid-price Pulse Electromagnetic Field Mat [PEMF] that I use early in the morning and then again at night before sleep. It helps reduce inflammation, and using the Delta-1 setting 30 minutes before bed puts me in a dreamy state. I practice Wim Hoff box breathing exercises in the morning while lying on the mat.
3. I bought a Piurify Hydrogen Water Machine and drink about 2 liters of hydrogen water per day.
I recently made an addition to the program:
I use red light therapy, a $40 red light panel, in the morning for 20 minutes. After using it for several days, I can say it does seem to boost my energy levels.
I’ve been doing weekly Cryotherapy and infrared hot saunas at a local business for the past two months. In this video, Dr. Andrew Huberman cites a study showing that doing a hot sauna once a week can boost human growth hormone levels up to 16 times their normal levels. There have also been some eye-opening studies about the effects of regular weekly sauna use on people’s longevity.
I intend to add EWOT [Exercising With Oxygen Therapy] and cold plunges to my daily routine when I can afford it.
After four months of this activity, I am convinced my results have dramatically accelerated once I added these bio-hacking measures to my Carnivore/OMAD diet.
So, I agree with Dana White that this stuff works. It’s not an illusion, and it’s not a con game. I’m also not being paid by anybody to come to this conclusion or advocate for this protocol; in fact, doing this bio-hacking stuff doesn’t make me any money; it costs me around $200 a month.
But it’s worth every penny.

Cool - I'm using a grounding mat at work and in bed at night. But these other things are interesting to me (except the ice water plunges)!
Thank you for the information. I have never heard of this!!
