In a Disaster of a Press Conference, Joe Biden Inadvertently Makes The Case For Invoking the 25th Amendment.

A Confused Biden Contradicted the Hur Special Counsel Report, Then Mistook The Presidents of Egypt and Mexico

Late Wednesday afternoon, the long-forgotten Robert Hur Special Counsel’s Office released its report on current President Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents found in his Delaware home and think tank early last year.

While most of the public and the news media’s attention has been fixated on that OTHER ongoing Special Counsel investigation, the one led by Jack Smith into President Donald J. Trump, Hur quietly continued his investigation into exactly how several tranches of still-classified documents ended up being found in Biden’s possession and were stored in his house while he was a private citizen from 2017 through 2021.

In his report today, Hur finds fault with how Biden willfully kept and retained classified materials after leaving office but made the decision not to prosecute Biden for it due to Biden’s being - and I’m not making this up, I swear - a kindly elderly man with cognitive issues and a very bad memory.

Here’s the section of his report where Hur’s team - despite Biden’s lawyers strenuously objecting to it - discusses Biden’s cognitive difficulties.

This would be exactly the last kind of ‘endorsement’ you would want from a Special Counsel charged with investigating you while you are right in the middle of seeing reelection for the office of the Presidency: “Too bad you’re senile or I’d have charged you.”

The wisest course of action in the face of such a stinging indictment [pun intended!] by a Special Counsel from your own Justice Department would’ve been to stay silent and let the furor blow over.

Instead of playing it smart, Biden rushed out to do a convoluted and ill-thought-out prime-time “victory lap” press conference at the White House, in which he directly and angrily contradicted some of the direct evidence cited in the Hur Special Counsel report. It quickly became apparent that a massive mistake was unfolding before the nation’s eyes.

First, Biden deliberately contradicted the Hur report by claiming the report ‘showed’ he didn’t willfully retain and classified documents. The report says no such thing; it says the exact opposite several times.

Second, when a White House reporter directly asked Biden about the Hur report’s claim that he showed some classified material to his ghostwriter, Biden angrily denied ever having done that.

I’m not sure Biden’s loudly mischaracterizing what the Special Counsel’s report says will play well with Hur or Attorney General Merrick Garland.

If the entire point of the press conference was to boast of dodging a bullet from a Special Counsel investigation while simultaneously demonstrating to the country that he’s just fine and dandy mentally, that prime-time address failed to meet either goal.

Because toward the end, Biden managed to confuse Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the current President of Egypt, with Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In a press conference with one of the main goals being to assure the American public that Biden is on top of his game, he pulled another massive gaffe, demonstrating he is mentally declining.

How much longer can Biden continue to hold the 25th Amendment at bay as more and more Americans become aware he’s got serious mental issues?

Biden also engaged in a throwaway line early on in his prepared statement where he insisted the classified documents case Hur just put to bed is very different from the one that his chief political rival in the 2024 presidential race is facing from a different Special Counsel.

You can bet the OPTICS of Special Counsel Jack Smith continuing to stubbornly try to send President Donald J. Trump to prison for the rest of his life right after Biden got a huge pass from the DOJ is going to be freaking HORRIBLE over the next ten months.

Trump will know exactly what to do with this gift from Special Counsel Hur on the campaign trail. Bet on it.

You can expect Trump to exhaustively bring up that Jack Smith is still hot on his trail, eager to hang that magnificent orange scalp on his belt in Palm Beach.

What problems stand in Smith’s way in successfully acquiring that coveted Orange Scalp? Palm Beach is not Washington, DC. And Judge Aileen Cannon is not Judge Tanya Chutkan.

But that’s a column for another day.
