A Day Long In Coming
50+ Years Of Judicial Activism Has Begun To Be Rolled Back
I’ve only been arrested once in my life.
I volunteered for the honor outside of an abortion clinic.
This was in Minneapolis back in the mid-1980’s while I was attending a small Bible college in Bloomington. The Operation Rescue Movement was underway at the time and I joined in, as did a handful of other students at my college.
My punishment for helping to close down an abortion clinic for a single day was to be sentenced by a judge to perform community service for a number of hours that I don’t recall now, more than 35 years later. I spent those hours working in a homeless shelter during one of Minnesota’s harsh winters.
More important though that dramatic actions like that were the regular witness and picketing my small pro-life group was doing at several clinics in the area over a period of three years. Every weekend a group of us trundled into a van and drove to one of the nearby abortion clinics. For three years we held our signs in front of the clinic, protesting what was happening inside and witnessing and counseling the people who went in.
We saved three babies in three years that we know of because the mothers told us so.
How many more we saved is known only to God and the angels.
And today I’m crying because this is a milestone in a long road that I and many others have been walking for so many years now.
I’m sure many others who’ve been on this road for far longer than I are also crying today. I didn’t join the march to end abortion until 1985, my freshman year at college. I know others who’ve been in this fight from the start back in 1973, some of whom have shuffled off this mortal coil and now enjoy their well deserved rest.
This was a day long in coming and I praise the God of all grace that it has arrived at last.
But this is only a milestone.
This is not the end of the road.
The Death Cult is still out there, raging over the defeat of this day and preparing it’s counter-attack.
And counter-attack it will, but not really at the Supreme Court.
For with this 6-3 decision today, the SCOTUS has turned 50 state legislatures into the battlegrounds of this issue.
And we must win this fight on these 50 new battlegrounds as well.
After 50 years the issue of abortion and what limits to place on it is going fully back to where it should have stayed all along: in the state legislatures.
Many Republican Presidents over the years since the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down made overtures to the pro life movement while nothing ever seemed to really happen. Only in the 1980’s under Ronald Reagan were federal limits on abortion put into place, such as the Hyde Amendment, which Democrats have spent decades undermining.
Under 12 years of Bush’s in the White House, we got a lot of talk and hot air and little movement.
Obama was the most pro-baby killing President we’d ever had. And he was all lined up to pass the baton to the one person at the top of his party who would actually exceed him in her fervor for killing the unborn: Hillary Clinton.
And then a miracle happened.
And in the last two days that miracle - impeached twice and currently the target of a Congressional commission seeking to prevent him from ever running for office again - delivered yet again, twice, first on the Second Amendment and now on ending Roe v. Wade.
I want him back as soon as possible.
Because as time rolls on, it’s becoming clearer than ever to many that, whatever you may think of his past, he is God’s man for our times.
